The 84th Academy Awards took place last night on ABC.  Billy Crystal was amazing as the host for the 9th time and the celebrities shined (literally, there was a lot of glitter on the red carpet this year).

For me, the biggest moment of the night was when Octavia Spencer was announced as winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.  I was beyond thrilled! "The Help" was one of my favorite films last year and Octavia portrayed Minny Jackson remarkably well. She definitely deserved the recognition and she accepted her award with so much gratitude and heartfelt appreciation...all while looking stunning in her Tadashi Shoji gown.

Aside from the red carpet, the announcement of the Oscar winners, and a few acceptance speeches, my favorite part of the show was Billy Crystal's opening act and the Cirque du Soleil number--both were spectacular.

Billy Crystal opened with a fabulously hilarious musical piece highlighting all of the nominees for Best Picture.  It was especially hilarious when he started to talk about "Hugo" and pick fun at the fact the film did not involve an ounce of violence, blood, killing, etc...which is shocking since Martin Scorsese was the director of the film.

Cirque du Soleil performed an exclusive performance that has never and will never been seen again and it was quite spectacular.
